FREE NEW YORK CITY
TOUR
All the best art and architecture you can in New York City.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
The first phase of the High Line was completed in June of 2009. The reclaimed elevated railway turned public park transformed the neighborhoods it touched into a vibrant arts and design community. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, James Corner Field Operations, and Piet Oudolf, the High Line quickly became a top destination in the city. As subsequent phases of the High Line were completed the arts and architecture in the neighborhood expanded as well. Compiled on this map you will find every notable public work of art, museum, gallery, and piece of architecture. This map is less curated than the main map but much deeper. If you’ve walk the highline and wondered what a specific building was this map will give you the answer. Every project within a few city blocks of the High Line is included.
THE MAP:
As you’ll find exploring our map, there are plenty of places to see great projects or collections around the city for free. That said there are a few POIs and districts worth highlighting.
HIGHLIGHTS
The High Line offers a unique way to experience the city and the bevy of noteworthy architecture that surrounds it. It’s an easy place to spend hours taking in art and architecture. You’ll discover many pieces of art on the High Line during your walk as well. These works are typically not permanent and change seasonally or annually.
With galleries nearly door to door throughout the entire neighborhood, this is the best way to see works of art by noteworthy and up-and-coming artists. You can find a list of stand out galleries on the High Line District tour.
The majority of the works of art in the downtown sculptures tour are free to the public. If you looking to make the most of your time there are two clusters of projects worth noting. Battery City has a great assembly of project, and the area just south of Fulton St station hosts 4 of New York’s most impressive public sculptures.
