Originally the maps were started as a way to note places of interest for travel. When discovering a new location we would add it to the appropriate map. Over the years they’ve grown, and we felt the time was right to find a better way to share them. Neoteric Slate is the moniker given to the project of collecting and sharing the maps, WROT is the studio behind all the content shared here.

With so many resources available for finding historic sites, and museums, we simplified the maps to focus on modern and contemporary locations. With a few exceptions all of these works date from the 20th and 21st century. Architecture, art, museums, galleries, and more, our focus is to help you find the recent masterworks of art and design often overlooked by guides. You may notice that some of a region’s most famous locations have been excluded. Often these locations need no introduction, and we’d rather point you towards something unexpected. If you are looking for more check our maps, they are quite extensive. This site is a teaser for the maps, and contains only a small fraction of the locations noted on the maps.

In addition to our maps you will mind a section on print and film recommendations. While the art and architecture locations in our maps cross time periods, styles, and movements, the printed materials and films recommended are far more personal. They are standouts that we are personally familiar with. Hopefully we can help you find exceptional resources on some of your favorite (and ours) creatives.

This site is young and will grow with time. Right now the majority of the map locations are in New York City, but that will change with time. The maps will always have more content and features that the website. New regions will be added, targeted maps for specific subjects, and new locations will be featured regularly. If we have insider tips when visiting a location we will be sure to share them with you.
