Dia Chelsea is a contemporary art space located in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. Originally opened in the 1980s, Dia Chelsea was reimagined and reopened in 2021 after major renovations. It now includes multiple galleries and public spaces designed to engage with large-scale installations and multidisciplinary works. The institution focuses on fostering deep artist relationships and is known for its dedication to minimal, conceptual, and land art. Dia Chelsea also hosts public programs, performances, and talks that expand on artists' practices.
NOTES:
Dia Chelsea may be small, but it is one of the best places to see high caliber works of art for FREE. The images below are from past exhibitions and don’t reflect what is currently on display. Take a moment to explore the bookstore, it is well curated and a board selection. Be sure to see the permanent installation of ‘7000 Oaks’ by Joseph Beuys that on the sidewalk on 22nd St. Dia also has two additional works on display in SoHo by Walter De Maria that are FREE to the public.
