Raimund Abraham’s Austrian Cultural Forum in Midtown Manhattan is a 24‑story slim tower (7.5 m × 25 m) that transforms spatial constraints into design opportunity. Internally, a flowing double-height lobby, floating staircases, exhibition galleries, theater, library, offices, and residential apartment unfold vertically, all orchestrated around light, transparency, and urban contextuality. The sloping façade tappers away from the street creating a dynamic exterior that satisfies zoning regulations. Completed in 2002, its bold, angular form and compact footprint exemplify innovative urban design, housing exhibition spaces, offices, and cultural programming facilities. Abraham was better known for his avante-garde architectural drawings and theories. This building is considered to be one of his most important built works.

DESCRIPTION:

While visiting the building you can see ongoing art exhibitions that are FREE to the public, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm.
