The Naoshima Pavilion is a public art structure located near Miyanoura Port on Naoshima Island in Japan’s Seto Inland Sea. Designed by architect Sou Fujimoto, it was completed in 2015 to coincide with preparations for the Setouchi Triennale art festival. The pavilion rises to about seven meters and is formed from a delicate lattice of white steel rods arranged in a complex, faceted geometry. Its semi-transparent framework allows light, air, and surrounding scenery to pass through, blending architecture with landscape. Visitors can enter and climb within the structure, experiencing shifting views of the harbor and coastline from inside its angular grid. Serving both as a gathering place and a symbolic gateway for arriving ferry passengers, the pavilion reflects Naoshima’s identity as a destination dedicated to contemporary art and experimental design.

DESCRIPTION:

A short walk Kusama's red pumpkin and SANAA's Marine Station. The pavilion is also lit up nicely at night.
