CANOPÉE LES HALLES is a large architectural canopy that forms the centerpiece of the modern redevelopment of the Les Halles district in Paris. Designed by architects Patrick Berger and Jacques Anziutti, the structure opened in 2016 as part of the transformation of the former market area into a major public and commercial hub. The sweeping roof is made of glass and metal and spreads across a broad plaza, filtering daylight while sheltering the spaces below. Its flowing, organic form was inspired by the idea of a tree canopy, creating a light, open atmosphere rather than a closed building. Beneath the structure are shops, cultural venues, and entrances to the busy Châtelet–Les Halles station. The design aims to connect transportation, shopping, and public life in one central location.
DESCRIPTION:
La Canopée sits rights between the Pinault Collection and the Centre Pompidou and is well worth the visit if you are in the area of either.
